A shocking statistic

Apparently,St Vincent is third in the world for rapes. I would assume if it is true that it refers to rapes per capita but either way it's a very shocking state of affairs.

Am kinda lost for words and sick of the gruesome rapes reported in the newspapers. As a woman it makes me jittery and at times very concerned for my safety which means I find myself being super cautious. Who knew one day things would get this bad? Not me and it saddens me on so many different levels. We all have our work cut out to reverse this trend so that this violence against women won't continue unabated.

Meantime, the list of walking wounded continues to pile up.

Comments:
"Walking wounded" so on point!
Heard a J'can talk show host (Williams) present some folks' theory that it's kinder to kill people than to rape them...

The thought is really very scary and seems so senseless.

The fact that things have gotten to this point is as you said very "sad" indeed.

That sounds really bad! Hopefully the authorities can do something to curb this trend.

Wow, not a good statistic. So much needs to be done to allow for changes.

thats crazy! stay safe girl

Whoa. Rape. Better take some martial arts lessons Kami.

Actually, all you women need to get some mace to wald with... I would say acid, but you might spill it on yourselves.

So, where did they say were number 1 and 2 for rapes?

Sorry, not wald, walk.

That's scary in truth. There are surprisingly few rapes cases in the Bajan court pages, but the court pages are obviously not the best reflection of the reality.

Your post reminded me of a short film I saw a while back called Murder in Mesopotamia. It's set in St. Vincent, and it was an outstanding movie. If you haven't yet seen it I recommend; I think you'd appreciate it.

Haven't seen it but I know of the incident. Things are very grave here

Shocking and scary statistics!!What the hell is happening to our societies? Wanton savagery and barbarism, when will such atrocities and horror end?!!

I don't know if you saw the actual report that statistic came from. I linked to it in this post on my blog. The stat for St. Vincent is 112 reported incidents of rape per 100,000 people. Only the Bahamas and Swaziland had higher rates. The rate for Barbados was 25, the worldwide average was 15.

If one is to assume that the charges against the PM are correct, then there will be other similar cases in his past. We should encourage any other female who is keeping a secret to come forward. That however is not an opening for rumor or false charges. Our society needs the facts. What is the character of this man? Character is critical.
