World Aids Day
Despite all the evidence to the contrary a lot of people still walk around feeling that HIV is a disease that belongs exclusively to one group of people(gays).Even worse they believe that to contract HIV the person must have been promiscuous because HIV does not happen to the nice persons with the one partner and the 2.5 children.Nothing could be further from the truth as all it takes is one unprotected encounter.
Meantimewomen make up almost half the persons living with HIV As a region the Caribbean is second only to Sub Saharan Africa in terms of infection. It means that there is a lot of work to be done to arrest the spread of this disease. It threatens to destroy our communities with children being orphaned and grandmothers left to be the primary care giver.Naturally it is the most productive age groups that fall prey leaving a depleted work force.
We owe it to ourselves to get all the facts and to act on them.It follows that we must try our best to make the right choices and limit our chances of getting infected. Our very lives depend on it

It is weird that with all the tech and what not in medicines... yet we are afraid of these small bacteria and virus. Doesnt it make you feel how insignificant we are in this grand world?
Yup,in the grand scheme of things we are nothing. Here today, gone tomorrow. We just have to try and make the in between worthwhile. And yeah I long for a day too when a cure for this disease and others will be found
Hi,
What boggles the mind is that with all the info and talking and research and publications and.....that people still behave so irresponsibly.
We hear of or know of cases where one man is fooling around with three other women that this woman is aware of (not to mention the ones that she doesn't know) and she still has unprotected sex with him. Talk about Russian Roulette with your life. You hear the "but they look OK" and you try to drive it into some really thick skulls that this disease has such a long incubation period that it may not show up for years. You can bring the horse to water but you can't make him drink it.

True words Abeni. When I was an undergrad and in to the club scene, I would dance with girls and so on, but never anything more [not even a kiss] because I knew that it would be ridiculous of me to give up my entire life just for a few minutes of pleasure. To this day, I still don't understand how some of my friends (male and female) managed to go meet someone in clubs and bars and end the night sleeping together, sometimes without even knowing the person's name!
